JOB SUMMARY
MTG provides technology installation and support services to commercial businesses on both a local and national level.
A Data Infrastructure Technician is responsible for the installation of data infrastructure and low-voltage cabling and equipment. The ideal candidate must excel in customer service skills to effectively communicate with clients, partners, other trades and fellow MTG team members.
Requirements include above-average proficiency in all responsibilities associated with the position and the capability to effectively work independently. A Data Infrastructure Technician will be required to interface with the Scheduling Coordinator and Project Managers as needed and deliver consistent, accurate and timely results.
This role requires the capacity to effectively assist and train clients, as well as the willingness and ability to provide direction and technical expertise to other MTG team members.
The Data Infrastructure Technician reports directly to the Director of Labor Resources.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- Identify and install appropriate cable pathway, support, and concealment components
- Effectively troubleshoot, diagnose and repair any physical layer wiring, connectivity or components
- Participate in site surveys, when required, and communicate details to the project manager
- Utilize and understand various test equipment including a data/fiber cable analyzer
- Physical equipment and infrastructure installation such as:
- Install, terminate, label and test a variety of copper low-voltage cabling
- Install, splice, terminate, label and test a variety of fiber optic cable and connection types
- Install a variety of cable support hardware using various anchoring or attachment components
- Identify cable paths and relay site survey information to Project Managers
- Assemble and install a wide variety of equipment racks and cabinets
- Build out of data center and equipment rooms (i.e., racks, cabinets, ladder racking, basket tray, cable management, etc.)
- Installation of grounding hardware and wiring in data centers and equipment rooms
- Mounting and hookup of customer equipment in data centers and equipment rooms (i.e., switches, routers, servers, SAN, PDUs, etc.)
- Mounting, wiring and hookup of WLAN equipment (i.e., access points, various antennas, controllers, PoE, etc.)
- Additional low-voltage work, including but not limited to; video surveillance, security, fire alarm, paging, AV, etc.
- Outside plant work; burial and aerial
- Maintain detailed and accurate installation drawings and documents
- Complete all assigned tasks within the specified cost budget and schedule
- Stay current with and adhere to all applicable codes and BICSI-recommended practices
- Stay current with all mandatory safety requirements and follow established safety practices
- Provide leadership and helpful guidance to installers. Teach “The MTG Way.”
- Effectively communicate with the Director of Labor Resources, Project Managers, Scheduling Coordinator and other MTG team members to ensure efficient workflow and administrative processes
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned
- High school graduate (minimum) plus substantial related experience
- Power Limited Technician License
- Familiar with BICSI-recommended installation practices
- Familiar with all NFPA, NEC and OSHA codes and standards
- Strong understanding of structured cabling systems and practical field experience
- Experience installing, terminating, labeling and testing copper and fiber optic cabling
- Must be comfortable working at heights of 3-40 ft
- Must be able to pass a drug test in this drug-free workplace setting
- Clean-cut appearance
- Ability to work nights when necessary
- Some travel may be required
- Must have a clean valid driver’s license with dependable transportation
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally required to sit
- Regularly required to make fast, repetitive movements of the arms, wrists, hands, and fingers
- Regularly required to reach and stretch with arms and hands
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel
- Regularly lift and/or push/pull objects up to 25 pounds
- Frequently lift and/or push/pull objects up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally lift and/or push/pull objects more than 100 pounds
- Regularly required to hear, understand and respond appropriately
- Vision abilities required include color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
