The Importance of this Role
The Compliance Manager will have responsibilities associated with ensuring that Matic adheres to all applicable federal and state laws, contract obligations, and internal policies and procedures. In collaboration with business partners, at all levels across the organization and under the direction of the VP Legal & Compliance, the Compliance Manager will develop, enhance, implement, and maintain all aspects of Matic's formal Compliance Management Program.
The ideal candidate has:
- An understanding of the laws, Federal and State, applicable to the financial services/insurance industry.
- An understanding of the elements of a formal Compliance Management Program and experience implementing and maintaining such.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Oversees the coordinated development, enhancement, implementation, and maintenance of various aspects of Matic's Compliance Management Program which may include
- Periodic risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and solutions,
- Drafting compliant formal written policies and procedures,
- General and role-based compliance training,
- Identifying, implementing and monitoring effective controls
- Complaint Management (escalated),
- Issues Management, and
- Reporting
- In collaboration with other members of the legal and compliance teams, as appropriate,
- Identifies, monitors, interprets, and communicates applicable federal and state laws and contract obligations.
- Conducts legal research, assesses impact of applicable requirements and identifies impact on Matic business practices,
- Oversees and responds to internal and external audits related to compliance.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline with 5 years of legal and compliance experience in a highly regulated industry
- 3-5 years of experience in Financial Services/Insurance Industry, in-house paralegal functions, or compliance experience preferred
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and practices
- Knowledge and application of organizational and time management principles,
- Skill in analyzing data and drawing conclusions
- Skill in legal research and writing
- Skill in effective communication including written, verbal, and interpersonal/relationship building
- Skill in problem-solving and decision-making
- Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills
- Skill in preparing accurate and relevant reporting
- Motivated by a fast-paced environment
- Experience with SOC II Type 2 or similar industry audits
- An understanding of GLBA, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, UDAAP and/ or FCRA
- An understanding of state insurance laws
- Experience with technical legal operations tools including contract management, matter management, training, etc. and more specifically IronClad and JIRA
