Assistant Controller

***This position requires a candidate to live locally and work on-site***

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Controller for Civil Engineering firm in Kent, WA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, with the ability to manage and oversee all aspects of the accounting department.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
• Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.
• Job costing and light project management
• Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operations.
• Coordinate and manage audits, both internal and external.
• Provide financial analysis and reporting to support business decisions and strategic planning.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure professional growth and development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or CPA a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
• Must understand the principles and have prior experience in Work in Progress (WIP) and job costing.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
