The Role

At Matrix Renewables, we are looking for a highly motivated individual to play a key role supporting Matrix USA as the Health, Safety, and ESG Manager. Based in the US, this role will assist the VP of ESG with overseeing the portfolio in the USA.

The Health, Safety, and ESG Manager will support the team in supervising H&S and ESG issues, with the assistance of the VP of ESG, in their day-to-day activities. This includes monitoring compliance with contractual obligations and ensuring that adequate management and monitoring of H&S and ESG matters are carried out in projects under construction and in operation. The Manager will assist in ordinary corporate and administrative obligations, liaising with external advisors, and coordinating with the M&A, Finance, and Operations teams as required.

This individual will use their experience and intelligence to assist in all corporate aspects related to H&S and ESG, such as monitoring KPIs, reviewing these aspects in contracts, reporting information to third parties, and preparing disclosures for stakeholders, among other tasks.

The successful candidate must lead the relationship between the company, the EPC contractor, and the SPVs on H&S and ESG matters, defining responsibilities among these three parties and addressing requirements to avoid any loopholes. They will be responsible for contracting third-party services related to H&S and ESG.

The ideal candidate should be mature enough to represent the company's interests with local teams and stakeholders, confidently defending the company's position even if it is opposed by the developer or stakeholders. Responsibilities also include managing the internal development tracker/reporting platform, generating development reports for management, and receiving information from our managers.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

• Lead H&S and ESG matters at Matrix USA.
• Compile and author the H&S Best Practices Manual.
• Establish, manage, and supervise H&S procedures and programs with subcontractors, suppliers, and EPCs using specific methodologies for each type of core on-site activity (e.g., electrical works, civil works, pile driving, heavy load lifting, etc.).
• Develop and/or review H&S and ESG requirements within EPC and O&M contract documents.
• Contract third-party H&S and ESG services, supervise them, and ensure all requirements are met, eliminating loopholes.
• Motivate and facilitate near-miss reports and minimize any on-site and off-site incidents.
• Track and minimize community-related grievances.
• Proven experience with Construction and Operational Environmental, H&S Management plans.
• Direct and supervise the work of the Owner's Engineers and Asset Managers in relation to the H&S and ESG aspects of the facilities under construction and operation, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and social requirements in each project/facility.
• Identify and implement collaborative projects with local communities in the surrounding areas of our projects.
• Integrate H&S and ESG data and KPIs periodically reported by our service providers and prepare internal presentations and reports for other stakeholders.
• Support the M&A and Development teams in identifying ESG risks in potential projects to be acquired or developed.

General Skills / Attributes:

• Master’s degree in H&S and ESG-related studies.
• 10 years of H&S and ESG experience, preferably in the energy industry.
• Understanding of the development, construction, and operational processes for renewable energy projects.
• Proficiency in Power BI.
• Full understanding of MS Excel, MS Project, and other administrative/controlling tools.
• Ability to perform at a high level in a matrixed organization, working in interdepartmental teams to achieve objectives.
• Solid communication skills
• Experience in managing social issues and local community engagement is a plus.
• Proficiency in Spanish is a plus but not required.
• Ability to travel to sites every two months
