About the Role
The Equipment Logistics Manager is responsible for servicing Matson Navigation Company, Inc., their customers, and truckers by ensuring that adequate equipment inventory and depot/rail ramp infrastructure is maintained and available throughout the interior of the country. In addition, the incumbent must effectively manage the costs of the depots, maintenance and repair of containers, chassis and equipment repositioning.
What you’ll do:
- Manage inventory control, empty repositioning, scheduling maintenance and repairs, depot agreement and related services.
- Ensure that we provide clean equipment in good condition to the customer, when and where it is required.
- Coordinate chassis availability at all of Matson’s ramp locations.
- Effectively manage equipment inventory to meet the needs of the customer and optimize equipment utilization.
- Effectively manage 38 inland equipment depots and equipment pools and ensure that all equipment is actively recorded in internal systems in a timely manner.
- Develop annual plan, mid-year and month forecasts and flash reports for empty equipment repositioning expenses, including level of domestic customer participation.
- Coordinate and direct the various activities within the department to ensure consistent, reliable response to customer’s needs and provide appropriate information flow to Matson personnel.
- Resolve all customer issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain an effective relationship with operations, and the Matson Customer with quality service.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
You have these skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a drive to exceed expectations.
- Able to think critically and problem-solve using data analysis. Excel, Tableau and Power-BI knowledge preferrable.
- Able to multi-task, such as speaking, listening, typing, and searching for information within an application.
- Approaches others in a tactful manner, reacts well under pressure.
- Prioritizes and plans work activities. Uses time efficiently, sets goals and objectives, organizes or schedules other people and their tasks.
- Follows Policies and procedures, completes administrative tasks correctly and on time.

And these qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university.
- One to two years of related experience.
- An in-depth knowledge and experience in the transportation industry.
- Ability to commit to long work hours when necessary to reach goals and/or deadlines.
- Some travel may be required.
