Role Summary

 

To ensure all products manufactured and assembled by Maud Borup are of highest quality and in compliance with all pertaining food safety regulations. This is a safety sensitive position.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

1.     Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the SQF code for certification. SQF Practitioner duties as defined by the code. Full understanding of the code and upkeep with code changes.

2.     Lead and prepare third-party audits and plant inspections with key customers and regulatory agencies.

3.     Have a thorough knowledge of HACCP methodologies, microbiological, physical, and chemical hazards, risk assessment and control plan requirements. Apply knowledge to develop, teach and maintain HACCP plans.

4.     Maintain testing policies and procedures to ensure testing logs are organized and up to date.

5.     Responsible for the document management system, maintaining all QA records. Teach and coach team members to appreciate and adhere to document control processes.

6.     Development an oversight of the sanitation program including SSOP’s and Master Sanitation Program.

7.     Set up, design, and conduct internal audits and monitor all in-process samples and finished products as per established quality methods.

8.     Lead and coach team members to conduct effective and penetrating audits that identify gaps and facilitate creation of effective solutions.

9.     Lead and provide strong managerial oversight for projects, requests, and problem-solving initiatives, internally and externally and with cross-functional teams.

10.  Log, track, and report to plant leadership information on SQF system nonconformance’s and corrective action progress.

11.  Develop training materials which explain plant processes and the SQF code and provide training to partners and leaders on a defined frequency.

12.  Create and maintain the master training schedule. Prepare materials for, document and facilitate SQF System Management Reviews.

13.  In conjunction with Director of Quality, identify and lead food safety, SQF and HACCP training programs for team members and other key employees.

14.  Responsible for the Food Defense program

15.  Maintain the allergen program, glass, and brittle plastics program, and GMP program that support the SQF code.

16.  Ensure compliance with all applicable food laws & regulations.

17.  Keep up to date with changes in regulations, food laws, pertinent legislation and all other industry compliance issues that will impact our Food Safety & Quality programs; acting as necessary to maintain compliance and bring these to the attention of Senior Managers as necessary.

18.  Approve & monitor chosen suppliers of products & packaging via Approved Supplier Program.

19.  Provide in-depth analytical support in the areas of food safety, sanitation, and quality in support of the Company's strategic goal.

20.  Accept, hold, or reject products, in-process samples, and finished goods.

21.  Perform line checks, raw material inspection and product testing.

22.  Other duties as assigned.

23.  Direct Reports: Quality Control Lead and Technicians, Sanitation Supervisor

24.  Backups: Director of Quality, Director of Human Resource, Sanitation Supervisor, Quality Leads and Techs

Qualifications and Skills

 

1.     Bachelor's Degree required. Food Science, Biological Science or related science discipline preferred.

2.     At least 5 years’ experience in quality assurance at a food manufacturing facility.

3.     Required to be SQF Practitioner, HACCP and PCQI certified.

4.     Experience implementing or sustaining a GFSI food safety system.

5.     Ability to read and interpret data related to specific quality criteria determined by our customers.

6.     Ability to lead and manage projects and multitask.

7.     Experienced in writing Standard Operating Procedures.

8.     Experience working with third party auditors.

9.     Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

10.  Excellent computer skills, Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Power Point).

11.  Organized and detail oriented.

12.  Easily adapts when unexpected situations arise.

13.  Work with data and details as well as offer ideas and suggestions to improve existing procedures.

14.  Active listening skills to engage and motivate team members to a common goal.

Physical Requirements

 

Requires the ability to move about the facility and communicate with contacts. Must be able to operate office/production equipment. Must be able to bend, stand/walk, sit for 8 hours or more, lift up to 25 pounds.
