Position Summary: The Controller will play a critical role in managing MHS financial health, ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our financial operations while also taking on key finance management responsibilities. This position combines the operational rigor of accounting with strategic financial planning and analysis, making it ideal for a finance professional who excels in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Oversee all accounting operations including but not limited to ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing financial forecasts, analyzing variances and recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Financial Analysis and Support: Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, including scenario planning, financial modeling, and analysis of financial trends.
- Internal Controls and Processes: Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets. Continuously assess and improve financial processes and systems to increase efficiency.
- Audit and Tax: Coordinate and lead the preparation for annual audits. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax filings and regulations.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to the organization's strategic planning efforts by providing insightful financial analysis and guidance.
- Team Leadership: Manage and develop the finance team, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting and financial management experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Minimum of 2 years in grant or nonprofit fund accounting.
- Comprehensive understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proven ability to develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls.
- Strong analytical skills and experience in financial modeling and analysis.
- Excellent leadership abilities with a focus on staff development and team-building.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proficiency in financial management software and advanced Excel skills.
