What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at Maui Jim Sunglasses?
The major function of this position is:
The Financial Analyst will act as a financial liaison between the Human Resource (HR) department and the Finance team, providing financial analysis and decision support for the organization to ensure the efficient use of resources and cost-effectiveness of Personnel initiatives. This includes budgeting, forecasting, and tracking expenses related to all personnel costs. This position is crucial for ensuring that the Human Resources department stays within budget and provides accurate, timely personnel cost data to the organization.
The principal responsibilities and duties of this position are:
- Support Human Resources and Finance team in the planning process for Personnel costs.
- Prepare monthly reporting on HC/FTE and Personnel costs based on Management needs, including Actual cost vs Budget/Forecast monthly reporting.
- Manage the Personnel Planning Application in SAP BPC, including the integration and maintenance of Headcount (HC) data from Workday, overseeing cost initialization processes, configuring, and managing security settings, and ensuring the smooth operation of the application for effective personnel and financial planning.
- Ensure the timely analysis of Personnel costs for Actual and Planning scenarios.
- Actively manage the development of reporting tools to support the planning and monitoring process of Personnel costs, with the aim to prepare accurate reports to support company growth and business needs.
- Work closely with the Finance, Planning and HR teams to provide data analysis, insights and reporting around strategic initiatives and other important priorities.
- Meet with HR and Finance leaders regarding monthly variance and monthly forecast numbers.
- Coordinate with the Finance team to ensure accuracy of financial projections and forecasts.
- Review and analyze personnel financial data in the general ledger for accuracy and discrepancies. Collaborate with the Accounting and Finance departments to resolve any issues.
- Collaborate with finance business partners to drive process improvements and standardize reporting.
- Assist the FP&A team in overall business analysis and be flexible in helping the department meet its overall objectives.
- Build recurring and ad-hoc reports from the ground up to help measure and analyze business performance.
- Support Finance team with various reconciliations and data requests.
- Complete other special projects and work at the request of management or other personnel.
Desired Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Previous experience (2-5 years) in financial analysis or similar accounting and reporting role

- Ability to professionally manage sensitive confidential information.
- Experience in P&L management, along with knowledge of financial systems and general accounting concepts
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple departments to complete a project or resolve an organizational challenge.
- Ability to analyze financial data is essential
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with SAP preferred
- Experience with Workday preferred
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong presentation/communication skills with the ability to influence and inspire.
