Maumee Valley Country Day School seeks a student-centered, creative individual who orchestrates learning for students in ways that are engaging, challenging, and relevant to fulfill our personal, experiential, and global vision. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative math expert who uses various pedagogical techniques to reach all learners.
The ideal candidate loves developing an experiential, problem-based curriculum that allows students to grapple with real-world questions and solutions, enjoys being a contributing member of a vibrant school community, and is facile in developing relationships with others. A good candidate has experience teaching a wide range of student learners and is capable of teaching a varied class load, which may include AP courses.
This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and collaborates closely with all Upper School faculty, as well as the cross-divisional STEM Department.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach a full load of high school-level courses in mathematics
- Manage a student load of between 60 and 80 students
- Nurture and support an advisee group of between 8 and 12 students
- Participate in the life of the school by attending athletic, arts, fundraising, and other events
- Chaperone school functions, such as dances and school trips, as needed
- Participate on committees and task forces as needed
- Mentor student clubs and activities as needed
- Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues
- Meet performance goals established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning
- Actively engage in personal and professional work in support of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
- Works independently with minimum supervision
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Skills and Competencies:
- Sense of humor and demonstrated success working with teenagers
- Ability to teach a range of high school mathematics classes from 9th grade to Advanced Placement (Calculus AB/BC & Statistics)
- Flexible and adaptable
- Familiarity with experiential education
- Ability to differentiate instruction
- Experience developing innovative curricula with a backward design framework, such as Understanding by Design
- Ability to collaborate within and between departments to emphasize interdisciplinary learning
- Able to maximize the advantages of a technology-rich teaching environment
Credentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; master’s degree, relevant coursework, or relevant professional experience preferred
- Experience in teaching high school STEM classes
You must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching license. Maumee Valley will support you in obtaining this once you are hired. For compliance purposes, it must be secured within the first six months of employment.
