Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Tasting Room Manager to oversee the daily operations of our tasting room. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the food and beverage industry, exceptional customer service skills, and a strong background in hospitality. This role involves managing staff, ensuring a high-quality guest experience, and maintaining compliance with food safety standards. bigLITTLE Wines is located next to MAWBY Sparkling Wines and share the same address and general vibe for selling high quality wine in a relaxed atmosphere on the Leelanau Peninsula.
This position is responsible for the overall operations of the bigLITTLE tasting room including marketing, events, staffing, managing employees, educating staff on general wine knowledge and service standards, maintaining cleanliness and inventory.
Essential Job Functions
- Hire and fire tasting room staff
- Schedule tasting room staff
- Develop and evolve the training of staff
- Work with MAWBY Merchandise Manager to procure and maintain stock of bigLITTLE branded merchandise offerings
- Resolve disputes in the tasting room (between staff or customers)
- Maintain incident log of reported alcohol, staff and customer disputes
- Responsible for tasting room supplies
- Work in the tasting room (including weekends and holidays)
- Keep print material updated and stocked
- Maintain a clean tasting room
- Collaborate with the DTC manager and outside vendors to create and execute on site events for club members and the general public.
- Listen and respond to voicemail, , social media comments and reviews
- Attend off-site events and tastings as needed
- Attend weekly tasting room managers meeting at MAWBY
Marketing:
- Post once/week on Instagram and Facebook
- One blog post/month
- One newsletter per quarter
- Maintain website
- Update hours of operation to reflect special hours, holidays, etc… on various platforms (Google Maps, Facebook, Apple Maps, etc)
Education / Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in an alcoholic beverage tasting room setting preferred
- Prior experience managing and training employees
- Knowledge of wine and/or ability to learn
- Extensive knowledge of bigLITTLE wines, products and processes
- Experience using a variety of software apps including Commerce 7, Google, Tock
- Must be highly organized, able to multitask; able to work effectively and delegate tasks
- Excellent customer service and hospitality skills
- Complete the TIPS® training within the first month in the position
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work 40 hours per week/year around; days of week depend on business needs and season
- Occasional shifts at events on weekends and for events
- This position may be required to travel to events, some overnight
Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to perform those tasks that are essential to the job, with or without reasonable accommodation
- This position is a mix of office duties and tasting room which requires a variety of physical requirements including frequent sitting/standing in one place as well as walking, reaching, and lifting
- Ability to focus, type, and use hands to reach
- Stocking, pouring and moving wine requires lifting up to 25 - 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to hear; fluent in English
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
