The Global Applications Engineer is responsible for the development, engineering, and technical support of high-quality HR systems and applications built and/or maintained according to Mayer Brown IT development standards, information security policies, and engineering best practices. This role is responsible for designing, developing/coding, testing, and deploying new and modified solutions within the HR systems. This includes integration and configuration of on premise, cloud and hybrid-cloud applications.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Develops custom reports and pages with the HR systems
- Develops and maintains inbound and outbound interfaces between the HCM applications and the firm’s internal and external systems/providers
- Provides Level II and Level III functional application trouble shooting including identifying root causes of application errors and data discrepancies, and subsequent remediation
- Supports and assists with second and third level support relating to the Mayer Brown portfolio of HR applications
- Translates functional requirements into software application designs and implements those designs; Performs application development
- Creates, maintains and applies effective unit tests
- Implements tools, processes and procedures using IT Operations standards to accommodate Change Management controls to constantly improve quality and delivery
- Assists the management team with evaluating and ultimately implementing third-party vendor application packages
- Works with IT team members and manager to efficiently coordinate day-to-day activities, development and implementation
- Maintains a good working relationship with other members of the team, other teams within the IT department, and the Business
- Accurately anticipates timelines of day-to-day activities and projects
- Updates manager and or project managers on progress of day-to-day activities and projects
- Adjust rapidly and frequently to new situations warranting attention and resolution
- Initiates actions and alternatives to avoid potential problem situations before they occur and /or increase the probability of desired outcomes
- Makes recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Act as a technical lead and share expertise with the team
- Be available as a resource for other IT groups or projects when interdependencies are identified with the HR systems
- Effectively communicates information to manager through appropriate reporting mechanisms
- Participates in on-call rotation providing 24 x 7 application support, ensuring that the application portfolio uptime is maintained according to Mayer Brown SLAs
- Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives
Qualifications
Education/Training/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the functions of the job
Professional Experience:
- 5 years of experience in a corporate IS environment highly preferred
- 5 years supporting applications in a global environment preferred
- Experience with Agile development methods preferred
- Experience in a Professional Services Partnership environment
Technical Skills:
- 5 years’ experience with PeopleSoft HCM and PeopleTools including extensive experience with PeopleCode, Application Engine, Component Interface, Workflow and PeopleSoft Security
- Extensive experience developing, coding, testing and implementing PeopleSoft HCM solutions, patches, fixes, and custom enhancements
- Strong experience working with Microsoft SQL Server or other relational database management systems
- Substantial experience developing, coding, testing and implementing solutions and custom enhancements using the Power Platform
- Experience with the Microsoft’s Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI & Power Virtual Agents) is also a plus

- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects

Physical Requirements:
- May require travel to other offices as needed
The typical pay scale for this position is between $136,000 and $179,900, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
