Job Title: Accounting Intern
Reports to: Director, Coporate Accounting
Location: Charleston, South Carolina (Onsite)
Schedule:15-20 hrs/ week (Will work with Student's availability)
Primary Responsibilities: The Accounting Intern will assist with general accounting tasks, including financial data research, reconciliations, account coding, and reporting. This is an ideal role for someone who wants to gain hands-on experience in corporate accounting and develop key skills in financial systems, operational process flows, account coding, and reporting.

Skills & Competencies
- Currently pursuing a BA or BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial practices (GAAP).
- Familiarity with accounting software or financial systems is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (intermediate level preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical thinking skills with the ability to connect data points and identify trends.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Adaptability and ability to work in a dynamic, changing environment.
- Previous internship experience in accounting or finance is a plus.
- Assist in applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information and reconcile financial accounts.
- Record check deposits and apply resident payments in financial system.
- Provide assistance in accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Help prepare general and standard journal entries under supervision.
- Support the preparation of financial and accounting reports for management.
- Assist with account reconciliations, focusing on the balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with sorting and organizing incoming mail for accounting department.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial data.
- Perform general administrative duties related to corporate accounting tasks.
- Ensure accurate and timely execution of accounting tasks (journal entries, reconciliations, reports) in compliance with GAAP.
- Assist in the coordination of quarterly reviews and testing with Corporate Accounting team.
- Support the execution of monthly close procedures and deliverables, ensuring compliance with corporate accounting policies and procedures.
- Help maintain financial controls and ensure regulatory reporting is accurate.
- Capable of working extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
- Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities, including the exchange and receipt of information over the telephone.
- Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying, and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must also be able to climb several flights of stairs if necessary.
- Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail-oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
- Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard.
- Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays.
- Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. For safety reasons, employees must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.
