Overview
The Quality Engineer supports the development and implementation of quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure that products meet established standards of quality, reliability, and performance. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve quality issues, conducting inspections and tests, and maintaining documentation.
Responsibilities
Reviews prints, specifications, and drawings for design intent and drafting standards. Evaluates dimensions, datum, and tolerances that affect fit, functions, durability, functional gauging, and product assessment. Conducts inspections and tests on products and materials to ensure they meet specifications.
Documents inspection results and any deviations from quality standards. Collects and analyzes production data for quality metric tracking. Assists production with problem resolution.
Evaluates processing methods of moderate complexity to determine if methods planned will be capable of producing products to meet customer requirements on a continuing basis. Makes suggestions for process improvements.
Collaborates with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and customer concerns. Provides technical support to the customer and internal engineering staff. Promotes employee understanding of customer quality requirements, basic workmanship standards, and MEC quality systems.
Assists with addressing customer complaints and quality concerns in a timely and effective manner. Provides customer support through visitation to their manufacturing or design locations. Investigates customer issues related to product quality.
Prepares and submits documentation as required by customer (associated Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) information, warrants, Control plan, Initial Sample Inspection Report (ISIR), raw material certifications, finishing certifications, and others).
Supports first production runs for proper quality and process controls and initial sample inspection report. Participates in performing failure mode and effects of analysis and control plan.
Assists workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product or process quality and reliability.
Supports aspects of compliance and continuous improvement through quality audits.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Job Skills Requirements
Proficiency with quality inspection tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to the degree necessary.
Ability to determine product status based on test and inspection results.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints as applicable to the manufacturing of metals.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required.
Experience Requirements
Three years of experience engineering in a manufacturing setting.
