About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team and support the U.S. Postal Service's Package Sorting Technology Group in designing and developing mechanical systems.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in 3D modeling and 2D drawings, and demonstrate proficiency with both solid modeling and MS Office Suite tools.
Responsibilities include interpreting and applying changes from redlined drawing markups, developing solutions for challenges such as end-of-life part replacements, equipment enhancements, and production equipment analysis.
The successful candidate will design, develop, and test mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, utilizing engineering principles to create products such as instruments, robots, machines, and controls.
Additional responsibilities include contributing to the fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products, and following established guidelines and instructions to complete assigned tasks.
The Mechanical Engineer will work under immediate supervision, reporting directly to a supervisor or manager, and independently complete mechanical design projects, including concept creation, detailing, and final design.
The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to support package sorting and material handling systems, conducting engineering analyses, and preparing technical documentation.
The successful candidate will utilize MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) for communication, reporting, and presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience with solid modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or similar).
- Familiarity with package sorting systems or material handling equipment is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Candidate must be able to sit, stand, and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Monday to Friday from 8am - 5pm, occasional weekend hours may be required.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
- Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for a Public Trust clearance.
