Summary
The Business Relationship Manager is assigned one or more areas of responsibility in the business. These areas may be departments (Marketing, Sales, Finance) or may be brands (Cobalt, Pursuit, etc.). Within the area of responsibility, this goal of this role is to first develop deep relationships with key business leaders and a deep understanding of the way the area leverages technology. Then, it serves as a partner, consultant, and advocate for the business area to improve the efficiency and ease of use of technology. This role combines several of the traditional interrelated IT roles: Business Analysis, Project Management, Product Ownership, and Delivery Management. This role was established at Malibu in 2023, and the practice has been developing since then. The ideal candidate would bring the ability to help continue to build the practice of Business Relationship Management appropriate for this industry, company and environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business
- Work to understand – broadly - the business of boat manufacturing.
- Devote time each week to understanding the work in area(s)/department(s) of responsibility.
- Learn, understand, and document the flow of work, processes and how technology is used in those areas.
- Identify pain points and areas of opportunity in the way work flows and technology is used.
- Develop business cases for projects to address opportunities and pain points.
- Proactively sense and anticipate changes affecting strategy including organizational improvements, technological advancements, and evolving organization needs.
Relationships
- Build close working relationships with key business users and leaders in the assigned area.
- Build close working relationships with IT contributors and leaders
- Lead regular meetings with the business leaders to cover the following:
- IT support for the area
- Active Projects in the area
- Project Idea and Product Backlog grooming & prioritization
- Help leaders in the assigned area develop business cases for technology work
Project / Delivery Management
- Develop and lead appropriate meetings to maintain project oversight and prioritize work.
- Organize resources, headcount, and engagements to support demand
- Set and consistently update expectations of various stakeholder and leadership groups
- Define, Plan, Schedule, Communicate, and Facilitate technology deployments and implementations according to deadlines and budgets
- Verify the appropriate level of process documentation exists to ensure the stakeholders understand what will change as a result of the project
Product / Portfolio Ownership
- For the assigned business area(s)
- Document & understand the key applications and technologies in use.
- Maintain a backlog of bugs, feature requests, and opportunities
- Help determine value to the business and level of effort to implement
- Facilitate regular prioritization with business and technology leaders

- Development Stack: CSS3, HTML/HTML5, XHTML, PHP, Net Web Services, .NET, SQL, API’s (SOAP, REST, JSON), nodejs, JavaScript, and SEO tools
- User Story / Agile Kanban / ITSM: Jira / Project Management: Jira & Smartsheet
- Database: MS SQL, MySQL
- ERP: Currently using Dynamics GP, Syteline, AS400, & Workwise
Qualifications
Critical Qualifications
- Exceptional communication skills – both oral and written English
- Significant Experience with several of the technologies listed in the section above.
- Demonstrated experience leading people, teams and projects
- Excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated abilities to collaborate with technical and professional staff and lead cross-functional teams
- Flexible and adaptable; able to help guide priorities and manage those shifting priorities
- Exceptional organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications, Education and/or Experience
- Preference for experience in manufacturing or similar industry
- 5 years of experience in information technology
- 3 years of experience in similar roles (BRM, BA, PM, Product Owner, Leadership)
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
