What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Construction Supervisor position at McBrayer Landscapes?
We are looking for an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Landscape Construction Foreman to lead our landscaping team on residential landscaping projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced employee in hardscape and landscape construction and installation methods while working with minimal supervision. This position directs the activities of a team of two or more in the construction of hardscaping and landscaping projects and requires a hands-on approach to supervising projects while ensuring high-quality standards are met.
Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise, direct and manage crews for maximum efficiency and quality of work. Leads by example.
- Provide on the job training of crew to maximize quality, efficiency and safety practices.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and on site for maximum efficiency.
- Reports for duty at the designated location and time each day, ready to work. Ensures timely arrival on the job site by all crew members.
- Ensures all safety rules and company policies are followed by all crew members. Ensures all personal protective equipment is worn at times when equipment or job task specifies.
- Direct crews help assist in the installation of plantings, sod, drainage, patios, retaining walls, artificial turf, water features, lighting, irrigation, and more.
- Reads landscape design prints and implements the landscape construction plan.
- Understands elevations and uses this knowledge to execute the construction plan.
- Operates, proficiently, a variety of mechanical equipment, including skid steers, mini excavators, plate compactors, sod cutters, trenchers, stone grinders, drills, gas concrete saws, demolition hammers, and jack hammers.
- Operates automatic and stick shift vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations.
- Routinely interacts with clients by way of introductions at the beginning of a job, answering questions, responding to client’s requests, making reasonable changes to the plan, and providing a walk-through at the job’s completion.
- Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with clients/customer and crew members, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain professional, calm and courteous under stress/pressure.
- Completes the necessary paperwork including timesheets, work orders, change orders, material requisitions, and client tickets.
- Plans and organizes the job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Also ensures that the job is completed in the most time-efficient manner.
- Manages a team of two or more employees, including handling personnel issues on site and training employees on policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
- Briefs owner and make recommendations on job status, personnel issues, or client concerns.
- Maintains assigned equipment and notifies management of needed repairs.
- Occasionally applies chemicals under the direction of a licensed custom applicator.
- Respectfully and willingly takes direction from the owner.
- Complete other duties/tasks as needed/assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Adhere to and lead crewmates with respect to company rules and safety procedures.
- Accurately prepare and submit timesheets for payroll.
- Track, maintain and record all job-related materials.
- Track and monitor expenses and turn in purchase receipts for each client/customer project.
- Ensure company safety procedures and reports are being completed, administered and followed.
Qualifications
- The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard construction practices and basic understanding of electricity, piping and plumbing.
- 3-5 years of hardscape and landscape installation experience is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, math skills, job planning skills and mechanical aptitude are a must.
- Able to lead, manage and communicate with coworkers and clients.
- Read & execute landscape plans.
- Ability to use levels and transits to establish grades.
- Ability to make decisions involving surface grades to control the flow of surface water.
- Paver, step, and wall installation with Belgard or similar product(s).
- Retaining wall, walkway, raised patio and outdoor kitchen installation.
- Masonry and veneer work is a plus.
- Knowledge of plants, shrubs and trees used in the region is strongly preferred.
- Operate/use all landscape tools & equipment effectively.
- Ability to use, operate effectively, and maintain a mini excavator, mini skid steer, skid steer, sod cutter, concrete saw, compactors, and trenchers, preferred.
- Open to learning new skills and be trained on how to use various equipment and tools.
- Ability to interact with clients/customers, selling/up-selling landscape services is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license & good driving record
- Ability to pass background and drug screening
- Speak, read, and write English. Bi-lingual abilities are preferred.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, a Landscape Construction Foreman is regularly required to stand; walk; crouch; stoop or kneel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and have ability to hear. A Landscape Construction Foreman must regularly lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and work outside in various and inclement weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the Landscape Construction Foreman is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), and moving mechanical equipment. In addition, job sites are located on both residential and commercial property.
