Workforce Development Manager
The primary responsibilities of this position involve leading workforce development initiatives and programs for the National Utility Contractors Association of Nebraska (NUCA of Nebraska). This position reports directly to the NUCA of Nebraska Executive Director.
Role and Objectives
The primary goal of these efforts is to enable member companies to employ more individuals to build and maintain Nebraska’s underground utility infrastructure, supply materials and products for construction work, and drive administrative and business support functions such as project management, estimating, financial management, human resources services and leadership roles.
The position will oversee and execute an Annual Dozer Day Event to increase visibility of the construction industry in our state, and to lead people to choose career paths in underground utility construction.
Role objectives include:
· Lead and administer a variety of workforce development efforts including secondary & post-secondary partnerships with high schools and community colleges, strategic partnerships with other organizations, and veteran/military alliances.
· Develop and enhance relationships with Nebraska middle school and high school administrators, teachers, parents and students, SkillsUSA & FFA chapter advisors and students, community college administrators, faculty and staff, and second chance/re-introductory programs.
· Schedule NUCA of Nebraska members to present classroom talks and host jobsite visits and hands-on activities with students; coordinate members to participate in Construction Career Days and related workforce development events.
· Promote workforce development initiatives and opportunities through the association’s social media channels.
· Meet with stakeholders and explore other opportunities to increase visibility and lead people to choose career paths in construction and related industries.
· Promote NUCA of Nebraska’s scholarships to graduating high school seniors, and FFA and SkillsUSA chapters; coordinate scholarship applications and work with the Scholarship Committee to select and notify recipients.
Job Responsibilities
· Basic familiarity and use of NUCA of Nebraska database to access member contact information and send workforce development related communications.
· Basic familiarity and ability to post and edit content on the NUCA of Nebraska website, Dozer Day website, and social media to post workforce development related content.
· Schedule and meet at least quarterly with the NUCA of Nebraska Executive Director and Workforce Development Committee to ensure that workforce development related goals in the NUCA of Nebraska strategic plan are being addressed and met.
· Work with the NUCA of Nebraska Board, Executive Director and Dozer Day Committee to set Dozer Day fundraising goals and select a charity.
· Meet with key contacts from NUCA of Nebraska’s contractor and specialty contractor member companies and associate members that are equipment and supply providers to identify their workforce development goals, and actively engage members in workforce development related activities, programs and initiatives.
· Write presentations, talking points and information for members to help them in conversations, meetings and events to promote career paths in the underground utility construction industry and employee opportunities in their companies.
· Connect members with Nebraska high schools, SkillsUSA, FFA, career re-entry programs and other opportunities and resources to meet with and promote career paths in the underground utility construction industry.
· Consult and meet with NUCA National leaders and staff as needed for guidance, help and support in executing a Dozer Day event.
· Work with the Dozer Day Committee and actively recruit sponsors and volunteers for the Dozer Day event.
· Collaborate with other NUCA chapters that host Dozer Day events to share ideas and best practices and share resources.
· Keep NUCA of Nebraska’s Executive Director apprised of meeting outcomes and progress in meeting Dozer Day and other workforce development objectives.
· Attend the following NUCA of Nebraska events to interact with members, build relationships with them and discuss workforce development related needs and how to be involved.
· As time permits, participate in NUCA National Workforce Development Committee online meetings and provide input.
· Familiarity with NUCA of Nebraska membership benefits, programs, events, resources and services in order to help promote and answer questions.
General requirements for the position also include:
· Willingness and ability to travel in Nebraska, including occasional overnight travel.
· Attending board meetings, committee meetings and NUCA of Nebraska events.
· Providing lead staff support to the NUCA of Nebraska Workforce Development Committee and volunteers, including determination of committee meeting objectives and agendas and development of pertinent support materials.
Skills
· Communication skills (verbal and written), with a particular emphasis on effective writing.
· Ability to develop and manage budgets, understand financial statements and invoices particularly related to a Dozer Day event.
· Taking initiative and driving and leading NUCA of Nebraska’s workforce development related efforts.
· Meeting and event planning skills, including negotiation and contracting, understanding and managing site logistics.
· Ability to think critically and strategically and identify opportunities and solutions for serving clients.
· Effective interface with volunteers, with an appropriate balance between providing direction and leadership while allowing and facilitating volunteer engagement and decision-making.
· Proficiency with technology, including membership database software, Microsoft Office products, social media, etc.
