What are the responsibilities and job description for the Blast Technician position at McCallum Rock Drilling?
McCallum Rock Drilling (MRD) is a rock drilling and blasting contractor based out of Chehalis, WA, that has been in business since 1988. MRD operates in commercial quarries, surface mines, timberlands and construction sites throughout the Western US.
MRD is seeking a full-time Blast Technician that will be based out of our Salem, Oregon office. The Blast Technician will be spending most of his or her time on the road visiting numerous surface mines throughout the Pacific Northwest. The main responsibility of a Blast Technician consists of boretraking and flying a drone to develop a 3D model that will be used for drilling and blasting purposes. The ideal candidate must have a clean driving record, can pass a pre-employment drug test, clean background, and must be willing to travel 95% of the time.
Minimum responsibilities include:
- Complies with all MRD safety policies and procedures
- Boretraking for borehole deviation in rock pits, construction sites, and mining operations
- Expected to operate a drone safely and efficiently
- Ability to create and develop 3D models using different software
- Expected to collect content while in the field for social media purposes
- Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel and management
- Ability to work early mornings and long days
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions
- Expected to produce results with little to no supervision
Minimum skills and qualifications include:
- Valid Driver's License
- Reliable transportation to the home base
- Clean driving record (no more than 3 violations within last 3 years)
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug test
- Clean background
- Ability to travel 95% of the time
- Must be a self starter
- Great attention to detail
- Self-motivated, desire to learn, and ability to adapt
- Basic computer skills
