Position Summary:
As a Community Engagement & Government Affairs Specialist you will play a crucial role in fostering relationships with our communities and supporting our efforts in campaign engagement and government affairs. Reporting to the VP, Government Affairs, you will be instrumental in ensuring the Renewable Energy Business Unit remains actively involved and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development, implementation and management of community engagement and outreach programs for the communities in which our projects are located.
- Research project locations and identify key stakeholders (elected officials, landowners, neighbors, etc.) to help tailor strategies specific to the local community.
- Regularly connects with project leaders to ensure they are developing and adequately executing community engagement plans, which requires extensive relationship building and a high degree of communication between multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as primary liaison for creating information about community programs and events.
- Effectively organize, manage and participate in community engagement initiatives and activities in support of the renewable energy industry and projects.
- Identify opposition and/or related risks to project success and help implement mitigation strategies.
- Create templates, communication materials, and engaging story profiles that accurately portray the business and project community engagement efforts.
- Provide status reports regarding community engagement and initiative efforts to external and internal stakeholders.
- Assist Marketing & Communications team by collecting and cataloging media assets for each project site.
- Conduct research and preparatory work to support the VP, Government Affairs with government visits and related events.
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, government affairs or a similar field.
- Minimum 3 years of related work experience.
- Experience in media or public relations, public communications, or marketing preferred.
- Strong understanding of project management fundamentals to meet project goals and timelines.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading, presentations, and public speaking.
- Experience communicating to a variety of audiences through a multitude of communication modes.
- Demonstrable ability to motivate and promote community engagement.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to influence others and gain support for the work and impact of community engagement.
- Ability to travel domestically, up to 25% of time.
