The Payroll Assistant acts as an important member of the Shared Services Team which includes Human Resources, Marketing, Finance & Accounting, and IT. The Shared Services team supports six companies across the construction, manufacturing and mining industries within the McCarthy-Bush Corporation.
As a Payroll Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining employee data through both spreadsheets and software to prepare and process weekly payrolls. The position compiles data, verifies it for accuracy, and distributes payroll checks accordingly. There is a strong union component to our business, so a successful Payroll Assistant will have previous union payroll experience, or the ability to train and learn on union payroll in their first 30 days.
What makes you successful in this position?
- You're an excel whiz and are comfortable using, updating, interpreting and creating spreadsheets.
- Experience processing payrolls start to finish - including experience uploading tax payments, child support payments, garnishments. adjusting benefit costs, and entering new hire and term information into multiple state systems.
- Top-notch communication skills to be able to explain payroll questions to employees while conveying data and trends to management.
- Ability to effectively multi-task and work on multiple projects and payrolls throughout the day.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills. You're part of a three-person payroll team, so teamwork and communication is key!
Previous union payroll experience, including a strong understanding of how fringe benefits, union dues, and certified payrolls work will give you a leg up on other applicants.
All candidates must possess a high school diploma and the ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. Pay range is $21-$26/hour, dependent on experience.
