We are seeking an experienced Medicaid Paralegal to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Medicaid eligibility, asset protection strategies, and long-term care planning. This role involves preparing Medicaid applications, gathering financial documentation, and assisting attorneys in developing Medicaid planning strategies for clients.
Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing and submitting Medicaid applications for long-term care benefits
- Process and respond to Additional Document Requests with state Medicaid agency
- Prepare Medicaid cases for appeals hearings
- Review and analyze client financial documents to determine Medicaid eligibility
- Communicate with state Medicaid agencies, financial institutions, and clients to facilitate application processing
- Conduct legal research on complex Medicaid and elder law issues
- Stay current on Medicaid regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
- Provide guidance and support to clients and their families throughout the Medicaid application process
- Draft legal documents, including trusts, deeds, spend-down plans, and other estate planning instruments related to Medicaid eligibility
- Communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management, and support staff with a high level of personal integrity and professional ethics
- Coordinate with nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other care providers regarding Medicaid eligibility and payment issues
- Assist attorneys in crisis planning and proactive asset protection strategies for clients
- Manage and organize client files, ensuring all documents are accurate and up-to-date.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with clients, referral sources, and community organizations
- Utilize Software for Estate Planning including Wealth Counsel (including former ElderCounsel Suite) and Adapt
- Track and manage billable hours and ensure all aspects of client and case management are properly met
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 2 years experience in Medicaid planning, elder law, or estate planning
- Strong understanding of Medicaid eligibility rules, asset protection strategies, and elder law
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software
- Desire to learn and grow, engage in personal development and contribute to firm growth
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
- Must be highly motivated and work well under pressure with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment

- Must be comfortable managing tasks and meeting deadlines with little supervision

The position is in-person at our East Greenwich, Rhode Island office. The hours are approximately 9:00AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday.
