Summary:
This job involves operating a wide variety of heavy equipment such as skid steers, excavators, backhoes and fork lifts that perform the compaction and preparation of commercial and residential waste to be disposed of at local landfills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operating heavy equipment safely, productively and efficiently in compliance with the company operating safety policies and procedures.
Conducts routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment; maintains accurate records.
Moves and compacts materials into trailers using heavy equipment.
Responsible for meeting and continue to meet all DOT mandated physical, and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Reports for all schedule work shifts before scheduled starting time, and works until scheduled stopping time, as required.
Accurate completion of paperwork daily.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Performs emergency response activities as needed.
Ensures proper use of equipment and immediately notifies supervisor of any issues with equipment.
Maintains MEI’s core values.
Attend MEI’s Saturday safety meetings once every other month.
Quick and immediate response when on call 24/7 every 5th week.
Emergency response clean-up; remediation work; installation of new or repairing existing sewer/water lines; familiarity with design and construction details; final grading of excavation areas as needed.
Wear and properly use a variety of levels A-D of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, skin, face, hand and foot protection as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Able to complete an extensive training program in proper waste handling and sampling procedures, environmental laws and regulations, safety training, certification and testing, and tank cleaning; 40 Hour OSHA Training and Confined Space Entry.
Planning and organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work with little or no direct supervision and an aptitude to complete assigned work.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalency.
1 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Must demonstrate proficiency in the operation of one or more of the following: backhoe, heavy-duty crane, heavy-duty forklift, track hoe, excavator, dozer and/or skid steer.
Physical Requirements:
Position involves occasional heights and confined spaces, regular strenuous physical exertion.
Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs.
Requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, sitting, talking, and listening.
Requires frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, and carrying.
Required to have clarity of vision.
Exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, etc.
Occasional ability to properly wear and use respirator equipment and other forms of protective equipment (PPE), including occasional full encapsulation PPE suits which can elevate body temperature substantially during strenuous exertion.
