Job Summary

The Financial Controller will undertake and oversee all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting preparation, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures.

Success will be grounded in managing, analyzing, and interpreting financial data to support growth, compliance, and preparation of information for executive leadership.

The successful candidate will be charged with enhancing financial processes and procedures to support continued growth and strategic initiatives, which may include evaluating, identifying, adopting, and implementing a new accounting management platform. The ideal candidate will demonstrate stability and a consistent commitment to timely reliability while maintaining accuracy.

Key Responsibilities include:

Financial Oversight:

  • Manage all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and project profitability analysis.

Job Costing and Project Support:

  • Implement and maintain job costing systems to track project expenses and revenue.
  • Analyze variances between budgeted and actual costs, recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with project managers on budget planning and updates.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable tax, labor, and financial regulations.
  • Manage audits, certified payroll reporting, and construction lien waivers.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Train team members on construction-specific financial tools and processes.

System Implementation and Optimization:

  • Oversee the implementation and integration of new accounting systems or platforms.
  • Ensure accuracy in ERP and project management software (e.g., QuickBooks, Procore, and Sage).

Strategic Contribution:

  • Provide financial insights to senior leadership to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Assist with bid preparation, financial risk assessment, and resource allocation for large projects.

Education & Additional Qualifications

  • 10 years of total professional accounting experience.
  • 5 years of high-level construction accounting or construction company auditing experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Accounting or Finance Required)
  • Experience with QuickBooks (Required)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Comprehensive P&L experience in construction or related professional services business.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and related accounting software.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Sage 100 Contractor or Similar accounting platforms a plus.
  • Use of Procore and/or related project management software is a plus.
