Position Description: Value Stream Manager (Business Unit Manager)
General Description of Job:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Value Stream Manager is responsible for overseeing and improving all operations within a specified value stream, from raw materials to finished products. This role ensures the efficient and effective flow of production, maintaining high quality and safety standards, optimizing processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes.
Job responsibilities:
- Operational Oversight:
- Oversee daily operations within the value stream to ensure timely and efficient production.
- Achieving on-time delivery exceeding 95%
- Prepares daily/weekly/monthly KPIs to measure the business improvements/value stream reports.
- Coordinate activities between different departments to streamline workflow and communication; example: Business Development and Marketing to ensure customer needs are met and Design Engineering to launch new products within the value stream.
- Ensure alignment with company production goals and objectives.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Manage, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team including operators, supervisors, and other relevant staff.
- Set clear performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Provide training and resources to team members to improve skills and competencies.
- Quality Assurance:
- Maintain high product quality standards by coordinating with the Quality Assurance team.
- Monitor production outputs and implement corrective measures for any discrepancies.
- Implement best practices for quality management and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure the value stream operates in accordance with company safety policies.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Address and rectify any safety issues promptly.
- Production Planning and Scheduling:
- Collaborate with the planning team to develop and maintain production schedules.
- Balance capacity planning with demand to optimize production without overextending resources.
- Identify potential bottlenecks and implement solutions to maintain a smooth production flow.
- Cost Management:
- Manage the budget for the value stream and work towards cost-saving goals without compromising quality.
- Monitor and analyze production costs and implement strategies for cost reduction.
- Ensure resources are used effectively and efficiently.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives and Six Sigma projects to enhance process efficiency.
- Identify and eliminate waste through process mapping and other analytical methods.
- Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, fostering employee engagement and problem-solving.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business management, or related field
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing or production management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement strategies.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and data analysis tools.
