Tractor trailer driver Job Description:
A tractor trailer driver operates a large truck with hopper body (belt trailer), a flat bed, a log (bunk) trailer or a chip box trailer for transporting loose materials such as dirt, sand, gravel, logs, wood chips, pavement or construction debris to and from construction sites, mines, or other locations. They must have a commercial driver's license and be able to follow safety regulations and protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate trailer trucks to transport materials such as sand, gravel, loam, paving materials, wood chips, logs and crushed stone
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations while operating the vehicle.
- Perform daily maintenance checks and report any issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Load and unload materials using the truck's hydraulic system.
- Ensure that the load is secure and balanced before transporting. Inspection of the trailer for materials post load and post delivery
- Keep accurate records of materials transported, distances traveled, and fuel consumption.
- Communicate effectively with other drivers, supervisors, and site personnel regarding transportation schedules and load requirements.
Requirements:
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDLA minimum) with a clean driving record
- Experience driving large vehicles (70,000 lbs. minimum), preferably tractor trailer trucks.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to tractor trailer operations.
- Effective communication skills / ability to work well with others, including construction crew members.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT physical, 50 lb. manual lift and agility test and DOT drug screen.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor, including mandatory daily pre-shift vehicle inspections, raising/lowering truck hood to check/add fluid level and to safely enter truck cab via steps.
- Flexibility with scheduling and availability to work as needed.
