Mail and Package Center Specialist

The McHenry County Purchasing Department has an immediate opening for a Full Time Mail & Package Center Specialist to join their team.

Work Hours: 8am - 4:30pm 37.50 hours a week

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

JOB SUMMARY:

The Mail & Package Center Specialist will perform manual and clerical duties related to collecting, sorting, processing, distributing and shipping of post cards, regular US mail, and express packages for and to various County departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Collect and Sort incoming and outgoing mail and packages according to postal standards.
• Prepare carrier labels for outgoing packages and envelopes.
• Safely and appropriately drive County vehicle to pick-up and drop off inter-office mail, incoming/outgoing mail, and incoming/outgoing packages between County buildings and the USPS.
• Verify that items are addressed correctly, marked with the proper postage, and in suitable condition for processing.
• Weigh packages or letters to determine postage needed, using weighing scales and rate charts and affix postage using postage machine.
• Complete forms in accordance with departmental procedures including end of day paperwork, and Mail Center and loading dock cleanliness.
• Interacts with staff and elected officials in person or by telephone in order to respond to inquiries, receive complaints, and resolve problems.
• Communicate appropriately with departments regarding tracking numbers and package signature confirmations.
• Comply with all applicable County policies including but not limited to Vehicular use and Cell Phone Use Policies.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED

Experience:

• One year of related experience

Lifting requirements:

• Must be able to lift 75 pounds

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License, safe driving record, and proof of insurance
