MRC is currently seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development. Individual should be creative and self-motivated who is quick thinking, works well with clients and co-workers and very dependable, to develop IETM content data in XML format in accordance with MIL-STDs.
Responsibilities:
Candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of electronic technical manuals standards/procedures. All of the work will be performed in a government provided development environment. All prospective candidates must have a clear understanding of technical manual structure and be familiar with DoD IETM and Tech Manual guidelines and processes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and updates of IETMs, including:
- Gathering source data
- Writing
- Editing
- Proof-reading
- Formatting
- Tracking inconsistencies
- Managing data modules
- Quality control
- Successful communication skills
- Customer oriented with flexibility to multi-task and perform a wide range of activities
- Excellent computer skills
- Interface with engineers and technical professionals in the writing, editing, and publication of various types of documentation
- IETM development, using XML content management database applications
- Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
- MS Office proficiency
- Desktop publishing software to automate authoring and publishing processes for technical documentation (e.g. PTC Arbortext, Adobe Frame Maker).
- Experience with JIRA a plus
- MilStd24784C and/or S1000D Experience
- 2 years’ experience developing Technical Manuals or working with engineering on technical drawings, blueprints
Job Requirements:
The Technical Writer III studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail, organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; and reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. This worker may perform the following tasks: maintain records and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material; assist in laying out material for publication, arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material, write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases, edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel. This incumbent may specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
The Technical Writer position requires a BS/BA in computer science, graphic design, XML publishing/development or related field is desired. Equivalent experience can be substituted for a degree if the experience is directly related to the authoring of Electronic Technical Manuals (ETMs) or IETMs.
Department of Defense secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
