- The 2025 salary range for this position is $25.78 - $38.67 per hour depending on experience.

- This is a full-time benefit eligible position including medical, dental, life insurance, holiday, sick leave, vacation, and uniform pay. Work hours typically consist of 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with an occasional Saturday morning.

- Diagnose issues, troubleshoot problems, perform inspections, and repairs on light, heavy, and specialized Public Works equipment.
- Fabricate metal replacement parts for vehicles and maintenance equipment.
- Pick up parts, supplies, and other shop and equipment related items.
- Perform annual Minnesota certified commercial vehicle inspections on County equipment.
- Maintain a safe shop environment, including; personnel safety, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), OSHA requirements, the Right To Know Act, and other related safety rules, policies, and regulations.
- Operate a variety of light, heavy, and specialized Public Works equipment.
- Perform snow/ice control.
- Perform some duties of Shop/Fleet Foreman in their absence
- Perform duties of a Maintenance Worker
- Assist other Public Works divisions
- Perform job related duties as assigned or apparent

- Knowledge of modern vehicle and equipment systems, including electronic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems.
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in heavy equipment and truck maintenance or related field and four (4) years of progressive qualified work experience in similar field.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
- OSHA and safety training
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proof of insurance
- Must obtain a tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment
- Must maintain certification as a Minnesota commercial vehicle inspector
- Must be able to obtain the following certifications within one (1) year of employment and maintain such license.
- Air Conditioning Certification
- Fork lift Certification
- Experience in Public Works related fleet operation and maintenance
- Regular interaction with County staff
- Interaction with the public
- Local, regional, and state agencies
- County staff who are repairing or servicing equipment
- Work is primarily performed in a maintenance shop setting and outdoors with routine exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations and extremes, odors, toxic agents, noise, vibrations, machinery, wetness, electrical current, vehicular traffic and/or dust, which may cause some discomfort and where there is a risk of injury.
- Ability to respond within one (1) hour of being called for unscheduled work and/or emergencies
- Ability to work around underground hazards
