MUSEUM EDUCATOR, PUBLIC PROGRMS
SALARY RANGE: $40,000-$42,000
Position Overview
Reporting to the Education Manager with overall approval from the Head of Education, this position develops transformational art experiences related to the museum’s collection and exhibitions for public and youth audiences as part of the Education department team.
Essential Job Functions
- Plans and implements events and programs, and interpretive materials for museum audiences, specifically the youth and public. Programs include but are not limited to wellness, lectures and guest speakers, performances, Teen and College programs, and others as assigned.
- Provides orientation and training on the collection and exhibitions for part-time instructors and performers hired for programs.
- Responsible for Teen Art Guide (TAG) volunteer program including recruitment, interviews, orientations, meetings, volunteer calendar, and collecting youth permissions paperwork. Ensures Youth Protection Guidelines are updated with the Education Manager.
- Assists the Head of Education by drafting budgets for assigned programs and exhibitions. Works collaboratively with the Education department to target youth and public audiences.
- Captures engagement data to analyze and measure program impact through surveys and other means of data collection for the Education Manager.
- Drafts promotional copy and conducts regular evaluation of assigned programs and advises on their promotional content and social media strategy for the Education Manager.
- Attends relevant McNay-sponsored community events and facilitates relevant activities offsite in support of McNay programs and/ or to network with fellow educator colleagues.
- Assists in facilitating other education programs with the Education team. Contributes innovative ideas to budget meetings, in-gallery engagements for exhibitions, and other museum initiatives as set by Head of Education.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills. Background in education and teaching industry. Desire to work with youth, primarily teens, and adults. Event coordinating experience. Proficiency in using MS Office software such as Outlook, Excel, and Sharepoint, Adobe Creative Suite software such as InDesign and Photoshop, and Zoom and Slack. Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed. Must be willing to travel locally for offsite programs.
Other Skills
Excellent ability in all forms of communication including written, verbal, and interpersonal, and strong customer service skills. Ability to work collaboratively with the public, staff, and volunteers, and create an individual workflow. Spanish or other language fluency highly preferred.

Education and Experience
Master’s degree in art or museum education, art history, community-based education, K-12 education, or equivalent experience.
Work Experience
Two years of working in museum education with a practice rooted in equity, access, object-based learning, dialogue, and inquiry. Two years of classroom education or equivalent experience.
