What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Supplier Quality position at MD Helicopters?
Manage company Supplier Quality function to ensure compliance with quality standards and applicable government regulations including FAA, EASA, and DoD. Responsible for the development and implementation of a world-class supplier quality system while effectively leading a team of supplier quality personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Establish, maintain, and improve an effective supplier quality management system
- Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Customer Support to identify quality requirements (e.g., contract reviews) and standardize supplier quality processes
- Assist procurement in identifying new suppliers, qualify suppliers, and maintain the Approved Supplier List
- Effectively communicate company and customer quality requirements and schedules, to suppliers
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with supplier quality representatives
- Implement appropriate controls to ensure incoming and outgoing products meet company, contractual, and regulatory requirements
- Establish and implement testing and inspection procedures for incoming product to include working with suppliers to schedule source inspections as required
- Monitor incoming product rejections, document non-conforming conditions, and maintain a corrective action system to analyze and correct nonconformances
- Establish and maintain a robust system for measuring supplier performance, reporting such performance to suppliers, and deactivating underperforming suppliers when appropriate
- Communicate performance to suppliers, issue corrective action requests as needed, and assist suppliers in determining root cause and ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken in a timely manner to eliminate recurrence of issues
- Establish quality objectives and metrics for the Supplier Quality department in support of quality assurance and company goals
- Perform quality system supplier and internal audits and lead resulting corrective action efforts
- Represent Supplier Quality during external quality audits
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation and continuous improvement of the Supplier Quality department
- Plan work for, supervise, and develop a strong team of Receiving Inspectors and Supplier Quality Engineers
- Participate in interviewing and hiring, training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems
- Manage time and department priorities/assignments effectively to meet organizational goals and company policies in the Supplier Quality department
- Make informed and timely decisions on routine and critical issues
- Embrace team building principles and effectively communicate expectations to employees
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of quality assurance disciplines
- Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Expertise in technical quality equipment, tools, and techniques
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload within department
- Ability to successfully coordinate efforts of staff outside of individual’s span of authority
- Up to fifteen (15%) travel required with significant supplier/customer interface
- Previous experience working within a supplier quality department
- Previous management experience is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills - creative thinker with exemplary written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate orally or in written form with both co-management and internal/external customers and regulatory representatives (DCMA/FAA)
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues is required.
- Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment
- Process improvement skills and experience
- Knowledge of AS 9100/9110 and ISO 9001
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Project
- Experience with regulatory requirements associated with 14 CFR Part 21 and Part 145
- Background in Aviation/Aerospace strongly preferred
- The ability to understand and follow instructions and the ability to concentrate
- Access to Export Control Information is required.
- Regular attendance at the work site is required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year College with 6 to 10 years in aviation quality roles and/or training or equivalent combination of education and training
