About the Operations Coordinator
This position is key in our growing organization, ensuring that all staff have access to the tools and supports needed to support their work. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably with non-profit organizations. The position is based out of MDC’s office in Durham, NC and supports a hybrid staff located in multiple states across the US South.

Qualifications
This position will be based at MDC’s office in Durham, NC, working from the office at least 4 days a week. The Operations Coordinator should have a relevant postsecondary credential and at least 5 years of progressively challenging experience in multiple aspects of operations, including office management, IT, and general operations. The position will report to the Vice President of Operations and Culture.

About the Operations Coordinator

The position is based out of MDC’s office in Durham, NC and supports a hybrid staff located in multiple states across the US South.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Office Management: The Operations Coordinator is the point person for managing MDC’s leased offices at 307 W. Main St. in Durham. This includes oversight of all building-related support, such as maintenance requests to the landlord, safety and related inspections, emergency and security procedures, deliveries to the building, etc. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that office equipment is functional (copiers, AV equipment), that employee computers are tracked and inventoried, and that supplies are stocked.
- Event Support: The Operations Coordinator will support internal events led by MDC staff, including setup, AV, arranging catering, and cleanup. These events may be held in our own convening spaces or in offsite locations. This aspect of the job requires schedule flexibility; while events are typically a handful of dates per month, those days may start early and/or run late.
- Information Technology: The Operations Coordinator is the first point of contact within the organization for IT issues and to coordinate ongoing service and upgrades with MDC’s external IT consultant. They will also ensure systems, processes and procedures, are in place for program staff to interface with internal systems; the Coordinator will also be the point person for setting up and troubleshooting webinars, teleconferences, and videoconferencing that are used on a day-to-day basis by MDC staff. This person is also responsible for maintaining the archival structure of electronic files (SharePoint).
- Staff onboarding: The Operations Coordinator will oversee the logistics for new hires (e.g., office set-up, parking pass) as well as support the process for new-hire orientation, ensuring smooth on-boarding for new staff. They will orient new staff to the building and associated training on telephone systems, office equipment, computers, and emergency/security procedures. The Coordinator will also ensure that all policies and processes are followed for any staff that leave the organization, supporting the exit of employees.
- Administrative support: The Operations Coordinator will assist in numerous administrative tasks as assigned, including support for the Finance team.
Qualifications
This position will be based at MDC’s office in Durham, NC, working from the office at least 4 days a week. The position will report to the Vice President of Operations and Culture.
In addition, candidates must have:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to represent the organization with partners and staff.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, completing assignments on time and within budget.
- Ability to work well under pressure and in rapidly changing circumstances.
- Strong IT skills; experience with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel), Adobe, SharePoint, and Zoom or other videoconferencing platforms, along with an appetite for learning new systems.
- Experience with overall property management.
- Event planning experience is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer-support approach. Capacity to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
