Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under supervision of the Shop Manager, performs various tasks including shipping, receiving, ordering, and issuing parts, supplies and equipment.
TYPICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receiving, storing, and issuing spare and replacement parts, equipment, and expendable items used in the repair and maintenance shops or for use in other areas on and off premises.
- Takes inventory of parts and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- May drive vehicle to pick up incoming stock or to pick up and deliver parts to units in other buildings or locations.
- Selects correct parts, equipment, and supplies by using catalogs, cross reference books or other sources and orders these items from distributors and dealers over the telephone or in person.
- Reconciles invoices of received parts, equipment, or supplies.
- Places parts, equipment or supplies in stock and verifies total inventory.
- Communicates with mechanics and porters to determine correct parts and/or supplies needed.
- Issues parts and supplies using computer inventory control programs or by notation on work order of the cost and type of part and/or supply issued.
- Calculates surfaces, volumes, weights, and measures needed to determine correct proportions of supplies and/or parts needed. Maintains parts department in a clean and orderly fashion.
- May be required to perform other related duties as requested.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma (or GED)
Experience: At least one year of practical experience in the parts field required.
Skill at: Good oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of: Use of parts catalogs, inventory systems, factory and aftermarket parts and their applications; Safe work practices.
Licenses: Valid Florida Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Special Requirements: Must be 21 years of age or older.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to obtain access to stored parts on many levels of shelving including above head and on multi-story levels.
- Must be able to use body members and/or tools of work aids to work or move objects or materials.
- Must be able to sustain a workload consisting of exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally (occurring up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently (occurring 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly (occurring 2/3 or more of the time) to move parts, supplies, equipment or other objects or materials.
- Must be able to access, input and retrieve information from a computer system and 10-key calculator.
- Must be able to read and comprehend safety manuals, instructions in the use of shop tools, equipment, parts catalogs, inventory reports, and cross reference books.
- Must be able to communicate by telephone or in person in clear fluent English with distributors, dealers, vendors, delivery persons, customers, mechanics, or other persons.
