Services For Adults (SFA) is a part of the Adult Services Division of the Mecklenburg County Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services. The division is responsible for four main program areas: Adult Social Work Services, Community Social Work, the Senior Citizens Nutrition Program, and the Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS).
Position Specific Information
Responsible for helping to implement and manage the Age-Friendly Mecklenburg (AFM) Plan. AFM is an initiative that brings together not-for-profit, higher education, health care systems, faith-based, private, and governmental organizations to improve the quality of life for older adults. This position will assist with establishing and maintaining relationships with community partners, organizing public meetings, managing the AFM plan, implementing AFM recommendations, providing annual updates to AARP and County leadership, as well as utilizing various methods of media to engage the community.
Position is located onsite full time at VCW, 3205 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208. Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but requires flexibility to work outside of standard business hours (evenings and weekends) on occasion.
This position is the primary point of contact and lead for the following responsibilities:
Building community partnerships
Facilitation and organization of public meetings
Facilitation of information and educational workshops
Community engagement and outreach opportunities
Understanding and making recommendations regarding trends associated with aging
Provide oral and written presentations and updates at local, state, and national events, and conferences
Increase awareness of healthy aging with the City of Charlotte and six towns within Mecklenburg County
Serve as the lead staff to recruit businesses, health care systems, and volunteers to serve on the Age-Friendly Mecklenburg Committee
Reporting to County leadership and community partners
Creation and implementation of the Age-Friendly Action Plan 2.0
Review and audit staff cases and workloads to prioritize duties and referrals for new cases
Investigate and take action on requests, suggestions or complaints concerning services in the assigned area
Provide leadership to staff members
Position Summary
Coordinate and supervise the overall functions of a program within social services. This position, under minimal supervision, is responsible for ensuring quality control and appropriateness of the program, coordinating special projects, and preparing applicable reports.
Essential Functions
Coordinate and supervise program activities and assist in the development of program
Participate in staff meetings with personnel to discuss plans, programs, and issues; work closely with other staff and community partners
Serve as the lead for community engagement
Participates in staff conferences regarding programs
Collaborate with aging network community partners to promote healthy aging
Monitor current programs and assist with the development of new programs
Complete monthly and quarterly program reports
Participate in staff conferences, workshops and other learning regarding assigned programs
Provide leadership on aging trends impacting Mecklenburg County
May be required to staff shelters in the event of disaster
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of three years of social services or human services experience.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
Licenses And Certifications
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
Requires County Driving Privileges
