Position Summary
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department is excited to add a Nurse to support our programming across Park and Recreation (including our Therapeutic & Inclusive Recreation Services (TIRS) Division). This temporary position will work with internal and external customers on medication administration, illness management and education and managing other medical needs for our Park & Recreation program participants. The incumbent will also provide support and education/training for staff on any medical needs, medication administration and care plans. This position will work on a PRN basis with schedule dependent on business needs.

Essential Functions
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Registered Nurse (RN); Will consider recent RN BSN graduate with three (3) years health department work experience as an LPN
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited college. If a higher degree in Nursing was conferred without a BSN, employment may be possible with the stipulation the incumbent successfully completes course work and exams for Principles and Practices of Public Health Nursing within one year
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: No
Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NC issued by the NC Board of Nursing or another Nurse Licensure Compact State; Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association that is valid for at least 90 days after hire. Maintenance of this certification is required and as funds are available may be supported as part of employment; Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges
Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite

Essential Functions
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms, medical information vital signs, or changes in patients' conditions.
- Perform administrative duties as needed and maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
- Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, or childbirth and develop health improvement programs.
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
- Assess the needs of individuals, families, or communities, including assessment of individuals' home or work environments, to identify potential health or safety problems.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition.
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement or evaluate patient care plans.
- Provide health care, first aid, specified laboratory tests, physical examination, immunizations, or related assistance in various locations.
- Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained.
- Consult with institutions or associations regarding issues or concerns relevant to the practice and profession of nursing.
- Refer students or patient to specialized health resources or community agencies furnishing assistance.
- Document patient history, related findings, and service performed along with necessary coding if in clinical assignment.
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
