Telecommunicator
Hourly Range: $20-$25

Position Summary
Incumbents are responsible for serving as a Telecommunicator for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. This is a 12-hour shift, C/D mid-shift rotation position. Shift assignment is based on the needs of the business and can change. You must be willing to accept whatever shift assignment is needed. This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, monitor radio traffic while performing multiple tasks, function in a low lighted area, and possess a clear speaking voice for radio and telephone communications. A clerical test will be conducted to ensure the needed 45 – 50 words per minute typing ability to be successful in this position. Comprehensive knowledge of navigating maps of the roadways and landmarks of the area in order to provide directions to officers and public is a plus. Current DCI certification is a plus if you meet the other Sheriff’s Office eligibility to apply.
Specific Responsibilities Include
High School Diploma, or G.E.D. Licensing Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain the required N. C. Sheriff’s Education, Training & Standards Commission Telecommunicator certification. This required training will be arranged after hire and incumbent must successfully complete the course to remain employed. Must obtain and maintain DCI certification. Training will be provided by the agency.

- Logging information into, or retrieving information from, various databases such as the Division of Criminal Information Network (DCIN).
- Utilizing the Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) and understanding the multiple functions of the system.
- Accessing various support systems/databases and producing accurate information.
- Responding to units’ requests for information such as directions, directives, and related information.
- Answering a multi-line telephone system and providing information upon request or transferring the call to the appropriate interdepartmental personnel.
