Mecum Auctions, host of The World’s Largest Collector Car Auction®, is in search of an auto transport specialist based out of their headquarters in Walworth, Wisconsin. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion and respect for collector cars and an understanding of how to handle special vehicles with the utmost professionalism and care. This position will be primarily responsible for local moves with company-owned equipment. Overnight travel may be required occasionally.
Responsibilities:
The Auto Transport Specialist will be responsible for delivering high-end collector cars to various locations within the states of Wisconsin and Illinois. This will involve driving a truck and ensuring safe and timely delivery of vehicles to their assigned destinations.
The specialist will also be responsible for performing various tasks in company-owned warehouses as required, including loading and unloading vehicles, organizing inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
The specialist will be proficient in maneuvering trucks into tight spaces and accurately positioning them for loading or unloading vehicles.
The specialist will promptly report any pre-existing damage or defects, accidents, or violations to their supervisor, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to address the issue and prevent reoccurrence.
The specialist will be capable of working independently and making decisions on their own, ensuring that deliveries are completed efficiently and effectively.
Skills:
The specialist should have prior experience in hauling cars, with a sound understanding of the process and safety requirements involved.
A basic understanding of vehicle mechanics will be an added advantage, as it will help in troubleshooting any minor issues that may arise during transportation.
The specialist should possess excellent adaptability and be able to think ahead to handle unexpected situations or abrupt changes in plans.
The specialist should possess a forward-thinking mindset, considering potential challenges and planning accordingly to ensure successful, safe, and timely deliveries.
Qualifications:
Valid Class A CDL: The specialist must hold a valid class A CDL license, enabling them to operate a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of over 26,000 pounds, including a towed vehicle weighing above 10,000 pounds.
The specialist should have a clean driving record with no recent moving violations.
Strong communication skills are essential, as the specialist will be in frequent communication with supervisors, customers, and other team members during deliveries.
The specialist should be flexible with their work schedule, as deliveries may be required on weekdays, weekends, or during evenings/nights.
Proficiency in driving a manual transmission vehicle is required for this position.
Light mechanical ability is preferred. Knowing how to jump start a car that hasn’t been driven for a while using safe, basic techniques.
Ideally, the specialist should live within a one-hour commuting distance from Walworth, Wisconsin, to ensure unexpected needs can be met.
