What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underground Dry Utility Laborer position at Medeiros Construction Inc.?
We work all throughout the Bay Area.
Our Company is a small, underground construction company that specializes in joint trench dry utilities: PG&E, gas, electric, CATV and telephone. We are looking for dedicated individuals who are eager to learn, work hard and be part of a company that values its people.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Trenching & Excavation Support
- Assist in digging trenches for underground utility conduit installation using hand tools and machinery.
- Ensure trenches meet required depth, width, and slope specifications.
- Conduit & Cable Installation
- Lay and secure conduit (electrical, telecom, fiber-optic, and gas) in trenches.
- Assist in pulling and installing cables as required.
- Seal and protect conduit ends from debris and moisture.
- Backfilling & Compaction
- Backfill trenches with appropriate materials after conduit installation.
- Use hand tampers, compactors, or other equipment to ensure proper soil compaction.
- Material Handling & Site Preparation
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.
- Transport and stage materials for efficient workflow.
- Keep work areas clean and organized to maintain a safe environment.
- Equipment Operation & Spotting
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely.
- Assist and act as a spotter for heavy equipment operators (excavators, backhoes, loaders, etc.).
- Follow proper hand signals and communication protocols with operators.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures, including OSHA regulations and company policies.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, vests, and boots.
- Be aware of underground hazards such as existing utilities, gas lines, and electrical cables.
- Traffic Control & Worksite Protection
- Set up barricades, signs, and cones to direct traffic and protect the work zone.
- Follow flagging procedures to ensure safety for the crew and the public.
- Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with the foreman, superintendent, and crew to complete tasks efficiently.
- Follow verbal and written instructions carefully.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure job site coordination.
- General Labor Tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned, including site cleanup and assisting in additional tasks as needed.
- Be flexible and willing to help in all aspects of the job to ensure project completion.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Minimum 2 year experience with installation/repair/maintenance associated with underground utilities and excavation (Required)
-Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License and reliable transportation
