Saw Machine Operator

JOB TITLE: Machine Operator (Saw)

SUMMARY

Operate or tend woodworking machines or other machines including saws, drill presses, routers, contour banders, lathes, planers, and wood molding machines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1) Receives daily production list and priorities from Plant Manager.

2) Inspect stock for imperfections or to estimate grades or qualities of stock or workpieces.

3) Start machines, adjust controls and may make trial cuts to ensure that machinery and CNC program are operating properly.

4) Must be familiar with basic machine functions and seek assistance with regard to machine set-up or operation.

5) Load material into machines, produce products according to blueprints, oral or written instructions, drawings, or work instructions.

6) Perform 1st piece inspection prior to releasing for full production. Periodically perform inspections as needed throughout the production run. Stacks completed workpieces on pallets or in boxes so that they can be moved to next work station.

7) Perform general and preventive maintenance on machines and keeps work area in clean orderly condition.

8) Cleans dust collection systems.

9) Follows safety rules and safe work habits.

10) Perform other duties as assigned by Plant Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a manufacturing environment and is frequently exposed to airborne particles and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Occasionally employee is required to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday – Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1 a.m., 40 hours per week. As job duties demand, additional work hours will be required.

TRAVEL

No travel is expected for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1) High School/GED.
2) Must have saw operating experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1) 1-2 years’ experience in wood working environment.
