Reporting to the Chief Nurse Executive, the Manager Patient Care Services on the OB/PEDS unit, is the nurse leader responsible for the quality of care and safety of patients in his/her area of responsibility. (S)he demonstrates core competency in communication and relationship-building, knowledge of the healthcare environment, leadership, professionalism and business skills(Healthcare Leadership Alliance, 2004). Consistent with the vision of the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Magnet Journey, the nurse manager constantly strives for nursing excellence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making involving staff, such as in shared governance.
- Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of health care, promoting care delivery with respect for individuals’ rights and preferences. Accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients.
- Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines, and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care.
- Provides guidance for and supervision of Colleagues accountable to the nurse manager. Oversees staffing, and scheduling considering scope of practice, competencies, patient needs, and complexity of care.
- Provides appropriate orientation for new staff and gives individual feedback on staff development and progress. Evaluates Colleague performance in a fair and transparent manner.
- Develops, implements, and monitors the budget for defined area of responsibility.
- Participates in and involves nursing staff in evaluative research activities to promote evidence-based practice. Encourages shared accountability for professional practice.
- Provides an open forum of communication with staff, allowing them ample opportunities to discuss issues and seek guidance. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree from an accredited school of nursing (BSN) or Bachelor of Science (BS). (Associate degree /diploma in nursing may be considered with five or more years of relevant experience. Must complete BSN or BS within 3 to 5 years from date of hire.) - Required.
- Licensed registered nurse in the State of Michigan. - Required.
- BLS certification. - Required.
- Demonstrated management potential or middle management experience. - Required.
- Master Degree in Nursing or related field. - Strongly Preferred.

Pay: $43.23 - $79.57 per hour
