Transition Coach

Job Summary
The Federal Bureau of Prisons requires Transition Coach Services as prescribed below at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) located in Milan, Michigan.

Duties

• The Transition Coach will be an integral part of FCI Milan’s Life Connections Program (LCP) and will provide religious coaching for Adult in Custody (AIC) participants. The Transition Coach will develop programs and seminars, track AIC community service hours, provide information on jobs in the community, and provide counseling for transition of AIC participants in the Bureau of Prisons Residential Life Connections Program. This is a multi-faith program, so the Coach will be expected to foster relationships with a broad variety of religious communities including but not limited to Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Pagan, Buddhist, etc.
• The LCP provides AICs with intensive opportunities for spiritual growth and deepening their religious roots by sharing common space and programs for the purpose of personal transformation and reducing recidivism. AICs will participate in religion-specific and inter-faith program components designed to bring restoration with God, family, community, and self. The program’s design will increase religious tolerance and respect among AICs of various faiths; will connect each AIC with a spiritual mentor; and will link participants with a faith community at their release destination to enhance community reintegration.
• Another component of the program will initiate specific victim impact programs to assist AICs in claiming responsibility for their actions and making amends with victims, family, and community. The program will enlist partnerships with individuals and organizations in its efforts to lower recidivism and facilitate spiritual growth and personal change. Volunteers, contractors, mentors, sponsoring religious congregations and organizations are all essential partners in the program. The goal of the Residential Faith-based Pre-release Program is to provide AICs living in a shared living space with intensive opportunities for holistic life restoration for the purpose of reducing recidivism and enhancing prison management.
• The Transition Coach will be monitored by the LCP Chaplain. He/ She shall attend all training required by the BOP for contract workers. He/ She will not be permitted to attend institution meetings, staff recalls, or government training sessions for Institution staff on contract time or as a consideration of the contract. The Transition Coach may attend team meetings, departmental meetings, or other meetings relating to the involvement of the services to be provided by terms of the contract. Some meetings will be required and accomplished on contract time. The contractor will be required to follow all applicable guidelines for the services to be provided. He/she will also maintain accountability of all Government furnished materials, supplies, and equipment. The contractor will sign the provided log or sign-in sheet as documentation for sessions worked and for security purposes.

Work Schedule

• A session is defined as one (1) hour.
• Services will normally be provided Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays. The Transition Coach will provide approximately 30 sessions each week up to a total of 1,440 sessions per year.
• The Transition Coach will work during program hours with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
• The schedule may include some weekend and/or evening hours based on program needs. The breakdown of hours will be determined locally.

Education and Experience

• Must possess an ordination certificate or like document showing they are a recognized clergy or spiritual leader in good standing with their faith community.
• Must have a minimum of three years of continuous, full-time experience as a minister with their faith community.
• Must possess at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree with a major in religion, counseling, psychology, or a similarly related field of study from an accredited college or university recognized by a US Recognized Accrediting Organization under the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (chea.org).
• Additionally, one must show proof of enrollment in an online program that leads to an Excel Certificate.
• The Transition Coach must submit two personal references and one letter of endorsement from their local religious organization.

Pay: $18.88 - $23.00 per hour
