Description

 This is a full-time on-site role for a Medical Assistant working for MEDRVA Healthcare in Petersburg, VA. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to assist healthcare professionals, including taking patient histories, preparing exam rooms, assisting with procedures, and maintaining medical records. The Medical Assistant will also provide direct patient care and support the overall functioning of the medical office. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will step in as Front Desk Registrar will undertake various daily office and clerical tasks as needed. This position will divide their time between our Chesterfield and Petersburg offices.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Clinical 

  • Prepare patients for examination, including taking vital signs and medical histories. 
  • Assist physicians during examinations and minor surgical procedures. 
  • Perform diagnostic x-ray procedures, ensuring high-quality imaging and patient safety. 
  • Operate and maintain x-ray equipment, adhering to safety protocols and regulatory standards. 
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by the physician. 
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing. 
  • Assist in patient education and explain procedures to patients. 
  • Properly fit patients with appropriate DME and perform documentation as required. 
  • Keep all clinical logs updated daily. 
  • Schedule patient surgeries to include prior authorizations, patient surgical clearances, and schedule post operative follow ups. 
  • Perform wound care as directed by provider 


Administrative 

 

  • Maintain patient flow and ensure accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system. 
  • Handle patient inquiries and provide information regarding procedures and treatments. 
  • Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones, filing, and managing correspondence. 
  • Assist with inventory management by maintaining appropriate examination room and DME inventory and notify management when inventory is low. 
  • Schedule appointments as needed 
  • Daily address and follow up on patient results, phone calls, and other orders as requested by providers. 
  • Performs patient scheduling, registration, inputs patient demographics, and collects co-payments 


Compliance and Safety

  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Stay current with continuing education requirements and certifications.


Requirements

  • Proficient in the use of electronic health records (EHR) and medical imaging software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain great patient care and work effectively as part of a healthcare team.

  • Serve as a patient liaison between provider and patient to provide remarkable patient experiences.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills and ability to multitask.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Current X-Ray certification/licensure as required by state regulations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Experience in performing x-ray procedures preferred.
