We are seeking qualified, experienced Emergency Medical Dispatchers with a friendly and caring attitude to join our growing team of first responders.
Primary Responsibilities
- Answer telephone calls from various local public safety officials and residents that are requesting ambulances for medical emergencies
- Answer telephone calls from various health care facilities (i.e. hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes) requesting ambulance transportation services, works cooperatively with medical/nursing staff at patient care facilities to optimize patient transportation, dispatches emergency and non-emergency calls to ambulances using the VHF radio system
- Communicates pertinent call information to the responding ambulance, such as the nature of the call as well as other responding agencies and notifies any other responding agencies
- Utilize the vehicle locator system "tracker" to send the closest ambulance available to emergency calls. Routinely monitors the travel routes and location of ambulances to ensure compliance with the "status" plan.
- Answer all emergent and non-emergent phone calls, establish a clear understanding of and upholds, properly enter required data from all calls into the computer according to Medstar guidelines, communicates professionally, empathetically and efficiently during all calls and exceed expectations while providing the highest level of customer service to our patients, contracted facilities and partner hospitals.
Qualifications
- Current State of Michigan Emergency Medical Technician Basic Licensure. (EMT-S or EMT-P
- preferred)
- Previous dispatching experience
- Obtain Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification within 2 years of date of hire.
- Experienced in using CAD, TRAUMASOFT, NETVIEWER system software preferred.
- High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Must possess strong communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Must possess strong typing skills.
- Must have the ability to work and multi-task in a stressful environment.
- Must exhibit strong leadership skills and be willing to lead the team during emergent situations.
- Must be willing to act in the capacity of a call taker trainer as required.
- Must exhibit strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Able to work as a team as well as independently.
