The Lead Medical Assistant initiates office operations in the Transplant department, supervises appropriate MA care and staffing needs, provides appropriate care to patients, and assists physicians and nurses in providing care.
Duties
* Initiates Clinical office operations and assists physicians with a wide range of healthcare services and procedures. Provides daily supervision of the support staff for the clinical area to ensure the smooth operation of the office.
* Coordinates workflow establishes schedules in the clinical area. Ensures smooth and effective services. Provides backup coverage, as necessary.
* Enters clinical information into the appropriate patient chart including, but not limited to, vitals, consents, pain assessments, learning needs and barriers, medications, allergies, history, as required and/or directed.
* Assists physicians and nurses with procedures and treatments as directed. Accompanies patients as directed and assists in meeting patient’s needs for comfort and hygiene
* Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers test and obtains results. Laboratory specimens are properly prepared, labeled and stored.
* Performs quality control functions for assigned area, as directed. Reviews medical records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring entries are signed and legible.
* Maintains Clinic Supply Inventory; Monitoring expiration dates and inventory of supplies in rooms and closets.
* Serves as the primary owner of the Transplant JabFab account to address patient complaints
* Coordinates the transfer of the FibroScan Machine
* Serves as point of contact for IT Issues
* Assists with monthly reports and daily code cart logs
Qualifications
* High school graduate or equivalent GED.
* Completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Program required
* Certification by an Accredited Professional Organization, i.e. National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required.
* Minimum of two years of experience in a health care setting, preferably in an outpatient setting, with one year supervisory experience preferred.
* Phlebotomy training/certification preferred.
