General Summary of Position
Float to Lafayette, Chevy Chase and Georgetown hospital
The END Technologist II is a highly skilled and experienced technologist who will be responsible for electro-neurodiagnostic testing for all age groups, as ordered by physicians, according to established protocols and national ASET / ACNS guidelines. S / he is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day clinical operations to include resource allocation, assignment of technical staff, performing quality control data, and troubleshooting lab equipment. This position understands the clinical significance of testing performed. The END Technologist II provides support for the Chief Technologist, including participation in the education and training of END technicians / technologists, students, residents, and fellows. In addition, the END Technologist II provides management coverage when the Chief Technologist is unavailable. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Performs Electroencephalogram (EEG) studies, including long-term epilepsy monitoring, including ECS recordings, evoked potentials, cortical brain mapping, WADA, perioperative evoked potential monitoring and ambulatory EEG with special parameter monitoring, END for adult, pediatric, neonatal in / outpatients and other special studies of the department, on the nursing units and intraoperatively, if neeed.
- Functions as a work leader to assist in the workload distribution among area's work staff, suggesting technical innovations and planning work schedules and assigning priorities according to load and clinical urgency.
- Summarizes the patient's neurologic status and clinical history from the chart and patient or other designated person and explains the recording procedure to the patient and any family designee present.
- Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and END findings.
- Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other emergenct situations.
- Ensures electrical safety of the patient at all times. Follows infection control and OSHA standards and guidelines.
- Completes all necessary record keeping and storing of records or graphs.
- Keeps equipment in clean operating condition, performs maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment and reports the need for major repairs.
- Participates in conferences, technical meetings and other educational activities and serves as in service training instructor for END Technician, Technologist trainees and other medical personnel.
