Position Overview: As a Front Desk Specialist in the Urology Department at MedStar Shah MSO, Prince Frederick, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the office and delivering an exceptional patient experience. Your responsibilities involve patient interactions, managing administrative tasks, and supporting the healthcare team to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Greet patients warmly and professionally to create a welcoming environment.
- Verify patient identities using government-issued IDs.
- Print and update patient HIPAA information, ensuring it's current for the year.
- Maintain and update patient records accurately, including full name, physical address, and contact information.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain any necessary pre-authorizations before appointments.
- Confirm appointments and provide patients with essential instructions or information.
- Schedule and manage patient appointments in person and over the phone.
- Collect co-pays, process payments, issue receipts, and reconcile daily financial transactions.
- Handle patient inquiries across various communication channels in a courteous and responsive manner.
- Retrieve, file, and manage medical records as needed.
- Generate and initiate referrals based on provider requests.
- Assist with billing processes when required.
- Keep the front desk area organized and ensure patient waiting areas are clean and comfortable.
- Monitor patient flow, directing them to the appropriate departments to minimize wait times.
- Perform administrative tasks such as faxing, scanning, and printing patient documents.
- Process medical records requests as needed.
- Uphold strict patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Adhere to company and department policies, quality standards, and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications.
- Intermediate typing skills.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and insurance procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a medical or healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with medical billing and coding procedures.
- Competence with medical scheduling software.
- Bilingual skills, relevant to the patient demographic, are a plus.
- Current CPR certification.
Travel Requirements:
