Department: Emergency Room
Status: Full-time
Shift: Day/Evening with rotating weekends (11:00am-7:30pm or 12:00pm-8:30pm)
Primary Duties:
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Serves as navigator for patient and family members through coordinating care with all members of the healthcare team including physicians, clinic support staff and other members of the healthcare team.
Coordinates patient's appointments including office, specialists, testing, pre-operative, post-operative and surgical appointments.
Functions as a liaison between patients, families, health care team and community resources. Advocates for identifying and eliminating barriers to care.
Handles referral calls to ensure streamlined access to care. Ensures patient referral process for specialty services is coordinated, anticipating patient and family needs throughout the process.
Provides clerical and administrative support to physicians including answering the telephones, relaying messages, and transmitting information to the appropriate personnel. Composes and types the correspondence of various clinical and non-clinical documents. Manage physician's calendar and coordinates meetings, etc.
Schedules surgical cases and admissions for the department. Communicates posting information to physician, nurse and administrative staff within the department, as appropriate. Communicates scheduling information, including information regarding surgical schedule, Georgetown University Hospital facilities, policies and instructions to patients and families.
Qualifications:
Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
1-2 years experience in a medical clinical office as a Patient Registration Associate or Administrative Assistant required
