A Day in the Life

As a senior manager of communications, you will serve as a strategic communications counselor to select senior business leaders and will develop and implement a variety of internal and external communications plans and programs. The Cardiac Rhythm Management operating unit comprises three distinct businesses that include diagnostics and therapies for patients who experience, or are at risk of, abnormal heart rhythms, as well as remote patient management.

Responsibilities will include the following and others may be assigned :

  • Serve as a strategic communications counselor to the leaders of the Cardiac Rhythm Management U.S. Region, and to leaders of select Cardiac Rhythm Management functions, including the Implantables Therapy Development Center (TDC), Patient Care Systems (PCS), and others as identified.
  • Effectively and inclusively liaise with partners in CRM Marketing and Communications, and with leadership teams for the CRM U.S. Region, TDC, PCS, and others as needed to gain alignment on approach, messaging and other components of successful communications activities.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of internal strategic communication activities, programs, and content, focusing on organizational health and effective employee communications in areas of responsibility.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of externally focused strategic communications activities, including key launches and other proactive campaigns, as well as issues management support.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of internal and external communications initiatives and improve existing processes and operating mechanisms, where needed.
  • In collaboration with the senior director of communications for Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM), develop short- and long-term executive and employee communications programs for the CRM U.S. Region.
  • Work directly with the leadership of CRM U.S. Region to align on and implement executive communications plans.
  • Write, edit, and manage the review processes for key documents and other internal and external communications for the CRM U.S. Region, as needed.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of externally focused strategic communications activities in support of Patient Care Systems, including key launches and other proactive campaigns, as well as issues management support.
  • Write, edit, and manage the review processes for key documents and other internal and external communications for PCS, as needed.
  • Shape messages and leverage communications channels to effectively inform, align and engage diverse audiences, including 1,500 field employees and employees in select functions.
  • Work closely with senior director of communications to manage issues.

Qualifications - External

Must Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) and 7 years of progressive responsibility in the communications field, in either a business environment or agency, OR Master's (or other advanced) degree and 5 years of experience.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communications skills essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and shift focus adeptly.
  • Travel up to 20 percent of the time.

    Nice to Have

  • Experience with creating and implementing employee communications plans, including change management.
  • Experience as a thought partner and communications advisor to business leaders.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill with stakeholder management and strategic communications counseling.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with negotiations.
  • Experience with issues management and reputation management.
  • Experience effectively managing multiple, changing priorities and complex situations.

    Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD) : $136,800.00 - $205,200.00.

    This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

    The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification / education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

    The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20 hours per week : Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance / reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

    The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees : Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

    Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns. Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
