A Day in the Life
This position may reside in either the Boston, MA or North Haven, CT office, reporting to the Director of Systems Integration. The Fleet Management Lead will be a leader within the Medtronic R&D engineering team working with next generation robotic assisted surgical system and related developments.
The Fleet Management Lead will support R&D development by coordinating activities across all Surgical Robotics sites related to the fleet of R&D capital hardware. This candidate shall lead the Fleet Management team, which has two layers of reporting structure. Site Leads will report directly to the Fleet Management Lead, and Fleet Management Engineers shall report to the Site Leads. Using inputs from the team and across the program, this individual will oversee allocation and maintenance of capital equipment through high level understanding of project and site needs. This position will include aspects of inventory management, planning, tracking and allocation related to the robotic system and its components. This individual shall track needs and usage, as well as support ordering to meet demand as program needs grow.
As the Integration Site Lead, you will:
- Manage Site Leads and direct Fleet Management Team
- Maintain working knowledge of the R&D hardware needs and variants of the hardware and software versions on each component.
- Make strategic decisions regarding allocation of hardware as they map to program priorities, leveraging software and reports to scale with business needs
- Coordinate R&D robotic fleet repairs and maintenance
- Oversee Fleet Management team documentation to ensure compliance
- Coordinate Site Leads to manage cross-site priorities and develop best practices
- Align contract manufacturer tasks with R&D priorities
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
- May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
- Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
- Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
- Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
- Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
- Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
- Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
- Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

- Strong project management skills including managing priorities and coordinating team activities
- Experience working with multiple teams on concurrent, interdependent projects
- Capability to process and trend data to drive decision making and prioritization
- Fluency in English
