Job Overview:
We are seeking an Experienced Medical Biller who will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of medical claims, verifying insurance coverage, handling patient billing inquiries, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Medical Billing & Claims Processing
- Submit and process medical claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies.
- Verify and ensure correct use of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes.
- Track and follow up on unpaid claims and appeals.
- Insurance & Patient Billing Management
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and coverage before services are rendered.
- Handle insurance claim rejections and resubmit claims as needed.
- Generate and send invoices to patients for outstanding balances.
- Revenue Cycle & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance regulations.
- Stay up to date with Texas medical billing laws and reimbursement policies.
- Perform audits to identify billing discrepancies and correct errors.
- Patient & Provider Communication
- Respond to patient inquiries regarding their bills, insurance claims, and payment plans.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure accurate charge capture.
- Coordinate with collection agencies for overdue accounts.
- Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare reports on accounts receivable and revenue cycle performance.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audits.
- Assist with end-of-month closing procedures related to billing.
Required Skills & Qualifications:Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED (required); Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in pain management, primary care, or a specialty clinic.
- Experience with Texas Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance billing.
Technical & Administrative Skills:
- Proficiency in medical billing software (e.g., eClinicalWorks, Kareo, Athenahealth, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding.
- Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems (E-Clinical Works) for billing integration.
- Understanding of insurance reimbursement policies and denial management.
Soft Skills:
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts.
- Problem-solving skills for handling claim denials and appeals.
- Excellent communication skills for patient interactions and provider coordination.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) – AAPC
- Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) – AMBA
- Certified Medical Biller (CMB) – MAB
