Job Description - DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & OPERATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in business management or accounting required; Master’s degree preferred.
2. Broad academic background and experience in education at the school level with a demonstrated understanding of the culture of public schools.
3. Five years in school business administration, personnel or related field with direct responsibility for supervising employees, or significant related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, as determined by superintendent.
4. Must be bondable.
5. Certified as a business manager, assistant superintendent, or superintendent by the state of Massachusetts
REPORTS TO:
Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the school committee policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, municipal personnel and the broader school community.
2. Assists the superintendent and staff in analyzing personnel and financial issues as they relate to meeting the educational needs of students, and seeks solutions to improve the overall delivery of the educational program and services provided to all students.
3. Facilitates collaborative communication within the district and community in order to promote an understanding of financial and human resource issues.
4. Prepares and oversees the preparation of all school system financial reports, ensuring that all report formats meet federal, state, local, and in-district financial requirements.
5. Administers through the appropriate directors the overall operation of food services, buildings/grounds, and transportation.
6. Serves the school committee and superintendent in collective bargaining sessions.
7. Maintains currency in school finance, administration and human resource regulations and legislation.
8. Administers provisions of collective bargaining agreements and/or district procedures dealing with staffing, transfers, discipline, leaves, resignations, retirement, benefits, vacations, absences, etc.
9. Other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent of schools
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full-year, Non-union, Salaried position, with additional details defined in individualized contract
